(4/9/13) - Eight U.S. athletes will compete at the 2013 ISU World Team Trophy from April 11-14 in Tokyo. World Team Trophy features the six best figure skating teams of the 2012-13 season, including Canada, China, France, Japan, Russia and the United States.

Each team consists of two ladies, two men, one pair and one ice dancing couple. Each skater will receive points based on their placements in the short program/dance and free skate/dance. The points will be added together across the four disciplines and the highest point total will win.

LADIES
Ashley Wagner finished fifth at the 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships last month in London, Ontario. She won her second straight U.S. title at the 2013 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Omaha, Neb., in late January. Gracie Gold, the 2013 U.S. silver medalist, finished sixth at her first World Championships.

MEN'S
Max Aaron enters the competition coming off a seventh-place showing at the 2013 World Championships. He won his first senior U.S. title in January. Jeremy Abbott, a three-time U.S. champion, will compete for the first time since winning bronze at the 2013 U.S. Championships.

PAIRS
Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir, the 2013 U.S. champions, finished 13th at the World Championships after earning the bronze medal at the 2013 Four Continents Championships in February. They will make their World Team Trophy debut.

ICE DANCING
Madison Chock and Evan Bates won their first U.S. medal, silver, in Omaha. They followed that with respective third- and seventh-place finishes at Four Continents and Worlds.

U.S. skaters qualified based on results of the 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, the ISU Grand Prix and Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series and Final, the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships and the ISU World Rankings. Teams will compete for a total of $1 million USD in prize money.

Team USA won the inaugural World Team Trophy in 2009 and earned silver last year. A modified version of World Team Trophy has been added to the schedule for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Icenetwork.com will feature news, photos and blogs from the event, while a free live stream of the event will be provided on the ISU Skating Channel here. The video will also be available on-demand on icenetwork.com following the conclusion of the event.
