Skaters will be nominated by the Athlete Development Committee (ADC) to be members of the Developmental International Team. The ICMS will then approve the nominated skaters and the ADC will name them to the Developmental International Team. Skaters will be invited to selected European and North American events.
Note: Skaters who are previous members of Team USA are not eligible to participate; the exception being pairs and dance. Athlete assignments as well as the approved competitions can be found here.
Selection of Athletes
- Selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Junior- and senior-level skaters identified by the ICMS to be on the Developmental International Team
- Novice-level athletes placing 1-12 at the most recent U.S. Figure Skating Championships
- Intermediate-level athletes placing 1-3 at the most recent U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships
- Selection based on protocol; priority given to those who competed at either the most recent U.S. Figure Skating Championships or the U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships
- Only selected skaters may compete in European events; North American events are open to skaters who are not members of the Developmental International Team, but they must represent their home club rather that the United States
- Spots will be limited
- Pairs and Dance
- Teams will not become part of the team envelope and will not be eligible for funding unless they are already members of the team envelope based on other results
- If a team is a member of the Reserve Team and medals at the Developmental International event, they will not automatically move up to Team C based on that result
- Skaters will pay their own expenses to participate
- U.S. Figure Skating will pay for expenses for a team leader for each event
- Developmental International Team members may receive a Developmental International Team sweatshirt, fleece pullover or fleece jacket if budget allows
- These jackets will indicate that the skater is on the "Developmental International Team" or will have a U.S. flag embroidered on the back with the U.S. Figure Skating logo on the front
- The jackets may not say "Team USA"
Definition
Skaters who finish in the top three in the senior ladies and men's divisions of the U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships will automatically qualify to participate in an ICMS-selected ISU event, preferably in the fall. For the U.S. Collegiate Championships, held in even years, the champions will qualify to participate in the World University Games, and the silver and bronze medalists will be sent to a separate ISU event.
Selection of Athletes
- Selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Senior ladies and men placing 1-3 at the most recent U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships
- The ICMS will select the event to be used each year
- It is also up to the discretion of the ICMS whether to select alternates should any of the skaters decline the invitation
- U.S. Figure Skating will pay the team leader and/or judge's expenses that are not covered by the organizer of the competition selected
- Skaters will be responsible for their own expenses but may receive a stipend per skater based on the budget remaining after the officials' expenses have been covered
- Skaters will not become part of the team envelope and will not be eligible for funding unless they are already members of the team envelope based on other results
- If a skater is a member of the Reserve Team and medals at the ISU event, they will not automatically move up to Team C based on that result
- Skaters who choose to participate would receive a Team USA warm-up jacket, but would have to purchase the pants
